Yosemite National Park has a well known history. Skiing in Yosemite is a prized activity that has existed for as long as the National Park has been open. The ski area in Yosemite has a beautiful family ski destination called Badger Pass.
Badger Pass has both Alpine (down hill) and Nordic (cross country) ski areas. The elevation at the ski area is 7,200 feet to 8,000 feet; a vertical drop of 800 feet. Open daily from nine in the morning until four in the afternoon from (generally) mid December until late March (depending of course on the weather conditions). The average temperature during this period is 30'-60' Fahrenheit.
The Alpine down hill boasts ten runs with 35% beginner, 50% intermediate, and 15% advanced. Five lifts feature one triple chair, three double chairs, and one handle tow. Nordic cross country skiing is available with 350 miles of trails and roads. Badger Pass itself has ninety miles of marked trails and twenty five miles of groomed trail. For those not quite self confident there are ski schools for both Alpine and Nordic. There is also a wonderful over night guided Glacier Point Hut Tour.
Snowboarding and snowboarding lessons are available. Snowboarding can be easily learned on the beginner slopes and beginner lifts. A big hit among the non skiers is snowshoe hikes. Snowshoes are available for rent and the guest can plan a private day of snowshoe fun or sign up for one of the three organized trips.
Snowshoe to Dewey Point is an all day trip. This is a great hike to the rim of the valley. Most of the famous granite icons can be seen and photographed on this hike. Crane Flat snowshoe walk is also available to book a reservation. It is a three mile walk to the Clark Range vista. This is moderate in difficulty. Full moons walk is available on the full moon evenings. This walk is pure magic as the guest will experience the moon reflecting off the snow. This walk is something you will never forget.
As this is being written winter in Yosemite is in full swing and Badger Pass is just waiting for your arrival. Good fortune and good skiing.
